Born in 1976 in Prešov (Slovakia) she read Slovak and English linguistics and literature for her Master’s degree at the Faculty of Arts, The University of Prešov (1999). In her research she focused on the linguistic and communication characteristics of abbreviations and acronyms (An Abbreviation as a Lexical Unit, 1999; The Analysis of Communication Use of Abbreviations, 2003). She has just finished her doctoral studies – in her thesis she analysed the linguistic and cultural aspects of English essay translation into Slovak (Linguocultural Aspect of Essay Translation, 2012). In cooperation with her husband Ján Gavura she has translated several poetry volumes, children’s books and fiction from English into Slovak language.
